March 2014

March is all about the Magic Millions QTIS Sale for Queensland breeders, owners and trainers.
The cream of the crop of Queensland-bred yearlings are showcased and snapped up by savvy purchasers from not just the Sunshine State, but right around the country. You won’t find a better sale than this one and that statement is based on the following facts.
The 2013 Magic Millions March QTIS Sale was the best juvenile performing sale in the country. It produced more individual winners pre-Christmas than any other sale. That is an amazing statistic. And in the four months of two year old racing until the start of February this year there were twelve individual 2yo QTIS graduate winners that have won eighteen races.
Between them, those QTIS graduates alone have amassed over one millions dollars in prizemoney, that’s one sixth of the sale gross which was just over $6 million dollars. They are pretty impressive statistics and prove just how good the QTIS sale is.
Some of those winners included Setfire to Therain, Grapevine, Celestial Dragon, Vienna Royale, Element of Chance, Waffle, Freezethemillions, Vo Treasure and Penthouse Poppy, along with Stakes performers Ruby Soho, Stroak and Ambitious Blonde.
Stroak and Ruby Soho were both hot contenders in the prestigious $2 million 2yo Magic Millions Classic in which Ruby Soho ran third. She’s now won connections over $300,000 in twelve weeks of racing.
Queensland stallions always perform well on the National Sires Table for Leading Sires, Leading First Season Sires and Leading 2yo Sires and so far this year that trend is continuing. However, the statistics for Queensland stallions in the Leading 2yo Sire category is outstanding. Eleven of the top fifty 2yo Sires are based in Queensland; they include Real Saga, Publishing, Falvelon, All Bar One, Hidden Dragon, Red Dazzler, Monashee Mountain, Jet Spur, Wicked Style, Red Element and Longhorn. These figures would surely have to entice buyers to consider the benefits of Queensland-bred yearlings as we lead into the sale.
Usually the Magic Millions January sale is a good barometer for the March QTIS sale, so I am confident it will be a good sale for vendors and buyers alike. I am aware a lot of Queensland owners and trainers skipped the January sale to save their dollars for this month’s event because the QTIS prizemoney is so highly sought after. I also think moving the sale days to Monday and Tuesday will attract more overseas and southern buyers and can only work in the vendors’ favour.
The other factor that should go towards strengthening the market is that the Queensland breeding and racing industry is becoming very buoyant due to the positive changes being made by Racing Queensland and the State Government. We all understand that the industry is only going to strengthen in coming years and now is the perfect time to purchase a yearling and take advantage of the ever-increasing QTIS prizemoney.

The TBQA, thanks to the support of Racing Queensland, is giving you a chance to win a QTIS pay-up at the Sale.
All you need to do is come and visit us at the TBQA marquee, just opposite the office on Monday 17th or Tuesday 18th and join the TBQA. All new members will go into the draw for a QTIS pay-up. (pictured)
But we’re not forgetting about our existing members and the ongoing support you give us. You also have the chance to win a QTIS pay-up as a show of our appreciation. Again, simply come over to the TBQA marquee, make sure your membership details are up-to-date and you can fill in an entry form. That’s the chance to save up to $990!

The Queensland Fillies Sales Bonus Incentive (QFSBI) has proved a huge success and has been very well received.
The $125,000 QFSBI is a partnership between the TBQA, Racing Queensland and Magic Millions and is designed to encourage buyers to purchase a filly at the Magic Millions March QTIS Sale.
It involved a series of 55 races held between December and March 8th, where the winning owners received a $5000 credit bonus to go towards purchasing a filly at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
To be eligible to win a $5000 credit, the winning horse needed to be QTIS registered and a graduate of a Magic Millions Yearling Sale. A maximum of two credits ($10,000) could be used for the purchase of any one yearling.
All those who won the credit were very excited about the scheme and have no doubt been studying the catalogue to find a suitable filly.
We will be watching closely to see what sort of impact this bonus has on the sale results for fillies and may even consider running the scheme again in the future if it proves successful.

So basically, if you want tremendous value for money, a great chance of success and the opportunity to cash in on the fantastic QTIS bonus prizemoney make sure you head to the Gold Coast Sales complex at Bundall on March 17 and 18.
Come and join us for our annual ‘Welcome BBQ’ that will be held on Sunday 16th in conjunction with Magic Millions. It’s a great time to inspect the yearlings, either before or after the BBQ and it provides a relaxed social occasion to network.
We will be presenting the inaugural QTIS Trainers Premierships as part of the function and we will also be outlining the exciting changes to QTIS and how you can cash in.
Good luck to all the vendors at the sale, I hope you get good prices for your yearlings but remember - always be prepared to meet the market. And best of luck to the buyers, I hope you find great success with your purchase when it hits the track.
