The funeral of prominent Queensland racing identity Peter Overell will be held at Burstows Chapel in Toowoomba at 12:00pm tomorrow, Friday 1 February.

Peter was a well respected breeder and trainer and, alongside his late wife Ann, contributed significantly to the racing industry. Peter purchased Special Dane as a yearling, who was one of Danehill's top performing, Group-winning juveniles in 1997-98. Special Dane then went on to stud and has left his mark on the Queensland breeding industry, siring Temple Spirit who is the dam of Champion racehorse and stallion, Spirit of Boom, as well as Temple of Boom.

Peter was Chairman of the TBQA for a number of years, before serving over 20 years on the Toowoomba Turf Club committee, 15 of those years as Deputy Chairman.

He lost a long battle with cancer at age 72.
