It is with regret that I tender my resignation from the position of President of the TBQA.
I have been proud to serve the Breeders of Queensland and the Committee of the TBQA as President since 2001.
I have carried out my duties as President conscientiously and with passion and at all times have been aware of my responsibility to pursue the interests of the breeders of Queensland.
There have been many challenges during my time as president and I have faced each one with the same enthusiasm as the last.
Although I will no longer head the committee, any assistance I may be able to render it, or the TBQA, I will be happy and honoured to provide.
I am proud to announce Basil Nolan has been elected as the new TBQA President by the committee at their July meeting.
Basil has been on the TBQA since 1969, only five years after joining his parents in the operation of their stud, Raheen, which they established in 1957.
Basil was previously Presdient of the TBQA for seven years, so has had plenty of experience both on the committee, and leading it. He is also on the committee of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association (TBA).
With so much knowledge and experience, I have no doubt that Basil will be an excellent leader of this progressive Association.
“I will work hard in this position and am confident the Association has a bright future ahead,” said Mr Nolan.
“Bob has certainly worked tirelessly in the interests of breeders over the past few years.
“He has moved the TBQA to become the strongest Breeder’s Association in the country, with the largest membership base.
“He will be a great loss to the TBQA, but we wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Stan Johnson has been elected into the role as Vice President.
Stan was originally a dairy farmer, before gradually converting Craiglea to a spelling complex from 1974.
He started with one stallion and a few mares of his own, and the stud’s client base grew from there. They now have six stallions and 150 mares.
Stan has been on the TBQA committee for ten years, and again I’m sure his wealth of experience will prove valuable to the committee.
“Bob’s departure is a huge loss to the TBQA, I don’t think anyone really understands the amount of time and effort he has put in representing our industry,” said Mr Johnson.
“All we can do is move forward, and I’m confident our Association will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
The Committee remains the same; Allan Gee, Erica Bates, Jeff Kruger, David Lucas, Gary Turkington and Chris Musgrave and I will remain until the approaching elections.
The TBQA Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday September 2nd, 2010 in Toowoomba.
There are three positions on the committee that are up for election. They are mine, Erica Bates and Gary Turkington.
Nominations will be called in the next fortnight, you will then have a fourteen days to apply.
I urge anyone who is eligible and interested in joining this progressive board in the interests of Queensland breeders to stand, as Associations are only as strong as the passionate people who represent them.
The TBQA is in a good position to face the many challenges ahead and I wish the incoming President and Vice President all the best, as I do the committee.
Thank you for your support over the years, and good luck!
